The city of Van Nuys was annexed to Los Angeles in 1915. At the time, Van Nuys had a population of around 2,000 people. In 1914, a high school was opened in the growing Van Nuys. The main building was completed in 1915 but later destroyed in the 1933 Long Beach Earthquake.
