The bride and groom’s big responsibility is to get married, of course, but here are myriad planning decisions to make first. Ideally the bride and groom work together on these decisions, to share the workload and to make sure both are happy with the plans. A small list of basics: Set budget.

Does the bride and groom have to match?

Even if you aren’t planning for all the men in your wedding party to wear the exact same suit or tux, it’s important that their outfits match in style and feel with yours. Matching doesn’t just end with the guys either—your whole wedding party should have a cohesive style.

What color should the groom’s tie be?

Answer: The groom can most certainly wear a necktie or bow tie that is a different color than the ones that the groomsmen will be wearing. As you mention, white (and also ivory/off-white) are often popular for grooms because those colors typically complement the bride’s gown.

Does the groom’s father wear a matching suit?

Suiting. It is most common that the dads will wear suiting that is similar in color and formality to the groom and/or the groomsmen, but certainly not a rule. To create uniformity between the fathers and groomsmen, style them in the same color suit or tuxedo as the groomsmen.

What color tie does the father of the groom wear?

Clothing dad in accent wedding colors is our favorite way to dress the father of the bride. For a burgundy and blush wedding with groomsmen adorned in burgundy ties, go blush pink for dad’s tie. You can also add different color accents to his pocket square and boutonniere, too.

What color suit does the father of the groom wear?

Even if the guys aren’t going black tie, dads can feel free to don tuxes for the wedding day. That said, formal suits in appropriate colors (black, navy, charcoal for evening or winter; navy, brown, beige for summer or daytime) are great. However, fathers’ tuxes should be in the same style as the groom’s.
